Figure of a Deity
Porcelain with overglaze enamels and gilt. Seated figure of a Daoist deity, well modeled in resplendent robes and ceremonial hat. His benevolent features convey a calm, compassionate authority as he sits with hands folded withing the voluminous drapery of his robe. The figure is decorated in a faux metal with gilt and turquoise splashes; simulating the worn, colorful patina of archaic bronze.

Condition: slight wear to enamels at base

Pair of blue and white dishes
Porcelain with underglaze blue decoration. Of circular form with a steep, rounded cavetto and slightly everted mouth rim, resting on a short, tapered foot ring. Decorated in underglaze blue with a lively central scene of a small boy riding a top a disgruntled water buffalo The animal about to cross over a small bridge, is startled by a small calf, swings its head around, upsetting the rider whose hat is tossed high in the air. The animated scene takes place under a beautifully painted weeping willow tree with swallows in mid flight. The surrounding border is painted with alternating foliage of bamboo and grapes and prunus boughs. The scene is a delightful and poignant analogy of the testing moments that a young boy must endure on the path to manhood.

Condition: fritting to foot ring.
